We all know that we should be ditching the single use coffee cups and instead using re-usable coffee cups but with so many different types on the market from ceramic, glass, plastic to bamboo it can be overwhelming to know which one to choose.
While glass and ceramic are better for the environment than plastic reusable coffee cups, they also are more fragile and break if dropped and since they are heavier, they are not as easy to just throw in your bag and keep for those coffee cravings.
Bamboo reusable coffee cups on the other hand are lightweight, more durable, made from sustainable bamboo and are biodegradable at the end of their lifecycle.
What Are Bamboo Reusable Coffee Cups Made From?
Bamboo reusable coffee cups are made from bamboo, cornstarch and an eco-friendly resin. The eco-friendly resin is mixed into the bamboo fibres and cornstarch mixture and it’s the resin that makes the bamboo reusable coffee cups hard and durable. This means if you drop it (unlike ceramic or glass) it will most likely survive and not break. This doesn’t mean that it’s indestructible but if you follow the care instructions, they will last for years.
Bamboo is the perfect material for making eco-friendly reusable coffee cups because it’s a sustainable crop that grows very fast without any pesticides and insecticides which means it’s better for the environment. Bamboo can be harvested over and over again because when the stem is cut, the plant will grow new stems to replace it which means it doesn’t have to be replanted.
Long lasting and Reusable
Bamboo reusable coffee cups are eco-friendly, durable, lightweight and non-toxic. They will last longer when they are used and cleaned according to their instructions. This means they can be washed in the dishwater and to make them last even longer, make sure they are fully dry before putting them away and avoid any water residue inside of the cup. However do not use them in the microwave as this will destroy the bamboo reusable coffee cups.
Not all bamboo coffee cups are made equal but you can rest assured you and your family will be safe with Young Spirit’s eco-friendly bamboo reusable coffee cups. Ours are plastic-free, non-toxic and BPA-free.
BPA can leech into liquids or water while having hot drinks and studies have shown that BPA can impair and disrupt the immune system so it’s best to be avoided.
Bamboo and bamboo made products have abundant carbon which helps to facilitate the decomposition of the material and help it break down when returned to the earth.
Young Spirit’s bamboo reusable coffee cups will take approximately one year to break down in soil (a maximum of up to two years) whereas disposable coffee cups can take more than 50 years to break down. Also, a lot of disposable takeaway coffee cups are lined with plastic so some reports suggest that these will actually never break down.
Young Spirits eco-friendly reusable bamboo coffee cups are extremely affordable at only $14.95 each which is excellent value for high quality reusable coffee cups. They hold a liquid capacity of 360ml which is the size of a medium takeaway coffee, other brands resuable coffee cups can cost up to $30 for one cup!
Our eco-friendly bamboo coffee cups can of course also be used for other hot drinks such as tea, hot chocolate or chai as well as cold drinks like iced tea, cold brew coffee and more. Young Spirit’s reusable bamboo coffee cups also feature a resealable ‘no-drip’ silicon lid and a heat resistant silicone band for extra grip.
Easy to wash
While bamboo reusable coffee cups may seem like they would be hard to clean, they can be washed normally and can even be put in the dishwasher! To extend their lifespan, just ensure that they are completely dry before putting them away especially if you are stacking the cups. Just give them a quick wipe with a tea towel before you put them away as moisture build-up can deteriorate the durability of the bamboo coffee cups.
